Qld: Sea World releases another shark
BRISBANE, Aug 26 AAP - The Gold Coast's Sea World will tomorrow release another ofthe sharks it is holding in a swimming pool while a new attraction is built to house theocean hunters.
Sea World marine sciences director Trevor Long said a three-metre dusky whaler caughtby a commercial fisherman in July would be released back into the sea.
Mr Long said the shark had suffered traumatic injuries from the hook and wire traceused to catch it, but during rehabilitation at Sea World it had adapted to the new environment, had demonstrated good swimming patterns and had been eating well.
However, last week the shark's appetite decreased and its swim behaviour changed.
Mr Long said it was decided to release the shark while it was in strong physical condition.
"She's still strong so it's best to release her now to keep her chances of survivalhigh," Mr Long said.
"We're confident her appetite will return and she'll do well back out in the wild."
Last week, Sea World released a four metre tiger shark named Bonnie after its conditiondeteriorated in the pool.
